I haven't seen them just heard them smashing into the chicken wire when I put the birds away at night in the last week or so. I don't like the things and we get loads of them.

The female I picked up the other night was about the size of my thumb tip so I'd say roughly the size of a 10p coin

They're 'orrible things. They need a collar & lead.

                    First May Bug of 2018

Just had a May Bug crashing into the windows. Same scenario as in previous years. Ted and Spud hunt it down and one of them eats it.

Have you seen any may bugs yet?

Nope, although I'm sure I'll jinx it now but we tend not to see em around us.

Spud found it first and has been dancing around it as it moved across the patio, clearly bemused by it
Then Ted came along.......................and ate it

They're early this year -- have to call them April-Bugs.
Exactly the same thing happened - Spud found it and played with it - Ted came along and ate it!!

Run VC RUN - the doodlebugs are back.

                            At least it’s not a V-1.

They spend 4 years as a grub eating plant roots before pupating and changing into adults. I usually leave them for the birds when I find a grub or chrysalis.

They are supposed to like potatoes.
