Ive had a caterpillar cacoon thingy stuck to the wall in my kitchen for about a year now and was wandering how long it takes for it to hatch. Sorry if it sounds a bit dense but dont know much about them. The bat society told me I done the right thing leaving him there but didnt say much else.

I think a year is a bit too long for it to wait to transform into a butterfly, if it was there last autumn it should probably have opened up in spring but you never know, it may just be slow. Here's a link to a bit of info & photos showing a butterfly pupa.

It'll stay there all winter prolly, and hatch in the spring
