There are native flatworms which are good to have but also some invasive ones which aren’t .

You really do need to take a photo if you can

This may help with your ID if you have a good photographic memory?

The link doesn’t seem to work sorry.

Rary used to have terrible trouble with flatworms. They eat earthworms, among other creatures. Here are some pictures. Hope this link works.

If you search for flatworm posts by Rary, you might come up with some information.

If you have New Zealand Flat worms your garden worm population will be diminished .

Flatworms lay alongside a garden worm and basically absorb it. Horrible things!

to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

                  Diversify & prosper

I've always had loads of worms too.
                    Hoping there isn't many .

That colouration does indeed look rather like a New Zealand flatworm (rather than some other, native type of flatworm).
New Zealand flatworms should be killed on sight, although admittedly chances are you will never rid yourself of them entirely that way.

I would have guessed at NZ flatworm from your photo but didn’t like to say as I wasn’t sure.

Where about safe you in the ‘wet and windy North’?

I understand they are heading south from Scotland.

Might be worth alerting neighbours to the problem, as they're likely to have them too. Really sorry, CG. They were the bane of Rary's garden, which looked lovely and was very productive nevertheless.
