Daubentons variegated - good value??

I've been slightly obsessed with getting hold of this (I may be succumbing to kale fever ). Have finally found a place online that sells a 1 litre pot for �8 plus �3.95 delivery. What do you think - worth it or not?

That probably exceeds my total annual expenditure for my allotment plot!

Well... I'm with Snadger; I would say not but then I grow everything from seed. I sowed Daubenton this year actually. It took a lot longer to germinate than the Nero di Toscana but I patiently waited... duly watered and got very excited when some greenery reared its head. Only to realise a couple of weeks later that I was in fact watering weed So, I have yet to try Daubenton but I'm hoping to next year; after I grow it... from seed. Mind you, if time is of the essence or you can't be faffed with seeds... or you don't want the disappointment of non-germination then I guess you have to pay what you have to pay.

How many in the 1 litre pot, is it just one or are there dozens of 'em?

I've never seen Daubenton (variegated) seed for sale - only plants. Daubenton itself rarely sets seed and they're not normally for sale. Mine came from the HSL.
AFAIK the only way to obtain the Var. one is a sideshoot. I had a plant once but it has departed for the great kale yard in the sky.
Be warned, kale collecting becomes an obsession

If it makes you happy, HH, I'd just buy it! But have you ever tried Daubenton's kale? What if it tastes rank?

If you get a few plants in the tub, could you justify it by sharing them and the cost?

Simply by posting your question, it seems to me you really want it... Plus, as an indulgence, it's cheaper than a fancy perfume or aftershave.

If it's from Pennard Plants, I can tell you that it'll be just the one plant in a pot!

Don't do it! Only after reading through the thread did I twig it is the variegated. I have grown daubenton, daubenton variegated and taunton deane so can safely say don't waste your money regardless of price. Daubenton and variegated taste exactly the same. However the regular is more vigorous and hardy. The variegated IMHO is a pain! It is slow growing, smaller, on the tender side and shorter lived.

However if you are still set on finding out yourself good luck. I originally bought several from france and the quality of the plants and the delivery was far superior to a lot of places I have bought from in the UK. https://www.aromatiques.fr/69-chou-et-kale

I have to admit the variegated doesn't look appetising to me... too ornamental looking, like hostas or something.

VC I have no doubt you already have them, possibly lurking under some others I used to be able to translate the page on my old pc but not this one still no probs shoving lots of plants in a basket regardless

I found a translate thingy on my mouse afterwards - right click, I think.
