Show us your Bean and Pea frames 2017-2019

I bought & tried 2 of those arches last year, and one windy weekend found them flat on their sides, with beans ripped from the soil/crop ruined *sad*They just don't seem strong enough for more exposed sites
I have one of those ebay polytunnel frames (cover rotted away years ago) and I tie my canes up along both sides of it. Canes and frame together make for a very strong structure.

Your right Thelma, they definitely need some reinforcing, I have 3 tallish wooden stakes on each side that are hammered about 12" into the ground. They're heavy when they're laden too.

Like the bean frame arch johnjohn. I just may copy that idea on my Inca plot to give a bit of height.

Cheers Snadge, If you've some rebar knocking about that would be better than my wooden stakes to reinforce them.

A make do Munty frame. Possibly needs more canes to make it sturdier but I need to buy them first!

I have munties (not up yet) and 4 arches to go along the main path like Johnjohn. Mine are covered with 50cm wide mesh, which makes the arches 20cm wider and you can grow more beans up 'em then. They provide a lovely spot to sit under and read when it's too hot to do much else.

The bottoms are reinforced with 3ft stakes as the arches are pretty heavy when fully loaded. And my site's fairly exposed - more so now the great windbreak that is the shed has been moved.

OK delivered the parts to the allotment, could not resist putting one together and hanging it on the wall off the original hanging basket metal hangers. They need lowering a little and fixing to the wall, another job for another day. I will post a photo when they are all up.

I'll show you mine next year now run out of time waiting for him. He can't get hold of the bloke he lent his scaffolding to. So I can't have my munty frame . Peas and beans are all ready to go out but it's to windy to harden them off. They'll be flat if I put them out now or 3ft tall before they see the outside world.

So boring old Cain wigwam for my beans & peas again this year.

Bigmal has it. Two arches either end, four vertical canes down each side, then 3 horizontal, longitudinal canes to form the roof.

Somehow there will be cobra, cosse violet team, runners and maybe a couple of tromboncino making use of it...

In the past I used two similar arches with this fence wire to make a sturdy arch 3 foot deep.

I have about half a roll of it left (1 roll makes 2 arches) which I was going to use on the top of the greenhouses along with the livestock fencing I've been keeping aside..

However, thanks to Snadger, I now have enough livestock fencing to do all of it (possibly with enough left over for a tomato cage) so I may have a frame tall enough for the telephone peas. But first I have to finish the greenhouse support.

Looking good Sarah. CFBs should be fine with either style of frame as long as it is tall enough.

Thanks Jay-ell I'm going to get some longer bamboo (2.4m) and I think for the CFBs I'll put the bamboo in the pots, they won't need the string wrapped around as well will they?

The CFBs will wrap around the canes so you only need to tie the tops to help keep the canes stable.

I usually plant 2 beans per cane. They may need a little help at first ant I tie them on at first then they wrap themselves.

I've not grown them in pots but you'll have to feed them regularly once they are flowering . I use comfrey feed but I'm assuming that you can use a high potassium feed like Tom feed or rose feed.
