    • Had a disaster with a lot of mine. Last weekend in march i went away for the w/e and had to leave plants in gh, lost shedfulls.

Interestingly though, most of the herritage really suffered and had to resow most of them but.............................Shirley ( f1) , and Alicante ( open) were the only two that were virtually un bothered, pretty impressive over a three day period.

kept my Black Russian ( 3) and Paul Robeson ( 1 ) but they are so far behind its untrue, even the resown plants have taken over.

      • Some list Deano! good luck with all those.. (not heard of half of them haha)

Well in comparison my selection looks positively pedestrian

Didn't grow any tomatoes last year, so going with five:
        - Black Russian (historically not had much luck with this one, trying again with bought
plants rather than raised from seed myself)
        - Roma (favourite plum)
        - Black Icicle (thank you Scarlet)
        - Dancing With Smurfs (also thank you Scarlet )
        - Black Cherry (favourite cherry)

Ps these'll be GH cordons. I'm also wanting to try hanging basket toms this year, which I've not done before. Which varieties would be most suited for this? Ta muchly (I've not read the whole thread so apologies if this came up already)

You can't beat Tumbler or Maskotka in my opinion. This year I'm trying Terenzo and Tumbling Tom Yellow.

            • My list is short compared to some on here, who either have loads of space or they're just a bit mad..

              - Gardeners Delight (x2)
              - Alicante
              - Ailsa Craig
              - Tomato Gigantomo (x2)
              - Tumbling Tom (x2)

              • Thought I'd be restrained this year, so only growing Harzfeuer and Fox Cherry (which I grew a few years ago and loved). Ended up with 70 seedlings -good thing I'm not a massive fan of tomatoes- all of which I have potted up and most of which have been given away. Looking forward to eating my cherry toms though

                  • I'd say so Jack!

                    Depends what ya want!

Sat in an MFB a plant at best will give ya 4 to 5 trusses with probably 6, 8 to 10 fruits, but they need feeding big style!

                    • Ailsa Craig are the most prolific of my sowings, 3 planted with more in reserve if others fail to get up to speed. Supersweet 100, Gardeners Delight and Moneymaker have all been planted in place and look to be thriving(fingers crossed)
Forgot 3 tumbling tom reds in hanging baskets too.

                      • Tumbling Tom
                        Money Maker

6 of each, plenty enough for two and a GG

                          Tropical Ruby F1
                          Yellow Furry Boar

Don't really have enough space for all of these, and had to find homes locally for lots of spare plants. But it's another year when too many tomatoes is barely enough
