Don't doubt the people using chicken pellets are getting good results, but I think JP Tim makes a good point about space and size of plants.

Chicken pellets will have a very different NPK+ profile, and will have much more Nitrogen and much less Potassium compared to tomato feeds.

For comparison, my preferred all-purpose tomato/chilli feed is Westland Gro-Sure, with an NPK of 6-3-10 plus Magnesium and Seaweed for trace elements.

I think for optimum flowering/fruiting in relation to the size of the plant, chicken pellets alone would be too low in Potassium.

I am a newbie to chilli growing but saved seeds from two lots of supermarket ones so no names but one lot were green/red finger chillies and the others Scotch Bonnett all are through and good and healthy! Happy for guidance on growing.

Hi from another Yorkshire chilli-growing almost-newbie. Good luck with yours - I'm growing one plant from a bonnet-type chilli from the market; it will be fun seeing what happens.

I've learned lots about chilli growing here and on t'interwebs generally. They like light and airy compost and to be kept on the dry side. Other than that, a warm sunny windowsill and/or a greenhouse in summer and they'll be happy. Any specific questions, ask on here, and someone far more knowledgeable than I will be able to advise you.

What I do is give them a handful of chicken manure pellets when putting them in their final large pot...Then when they start flowering I give them Chilli Focus feeds...

Good info here from seasprings..."Nigel" their dorset naga was transferred into a 160litre pot in May with compost and chicken manure pellets for slow release fertiliser, watered well and also given liquid feed.results were amazing come November.

Nice list rob. You've done well on your overwintering. I only managed to get 2 plants to overwinter. A chocolate hab & ghost.
