  • My little experiment

Last year I sowed seeds in soil. Some grow fine and others decided they wanted to die.

As most of you know I don't have a garden and I am living in a flat, so I have been trying to grow on my windowsill.

They may have died due to lack of water/over watering.

So this year I have decided to try growing using just vermiculite to see if it's any better. That way I don't have to worry about over watering/not having enough water.

    We will see.....

You can still over water using Vermiculite!!
Have you tried using capillary matting?

I will make sure I will water every few days. I didn't know you could over water :/

No not tired that. Might pick some up tomorrow when I go the garden centre

May as well give it a go.

I sewed a couple of supert hot chillis seeds last week that Scarlet sent to me.
I sewed them in those little envioromentally friendly things that you can bury in the next pot, bad move in a heated prop, they dry out like heck.
Think i could sink them into a pod ?

Sink them into a pot making sure to cover them completely is certainly an option...has worked for me in the past..
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Cariann, don't forget Vermiculite has no nutrients so may well be ok for sowing but for growing you will need to feed. I would go down the capillary route with compost based medium as the plants will only take up enough water for their needs.
