The sweet pea seeds I took off the plants last year in September were sown straight away into a large pot and left outside. They're about 2" high now. I've just noticed the ones I've put to chit are dwarf sweet peas. Didn't notice that when I got them in the 50p W*v*le Garden Centre sale. Got 3 pkts of full size ones too though, so I may put the dwarf ones to scramble about on their own in a corner.

            Endless wonder.

              Since Christmas I have sown
Red robin tomatoes (dwarf windowsill variety)
              Bloody butcher tomato
Sweet pea current tomato ( particularly excited about these teeny toms)
              Cherry bomb peppers
              Oregano (true Greek)
              long red Marconi pepper
              Sweet nardello pepper
              Tomato(Orkado)
              Tomato terenzo
              Physalis
              Alpine strawberry
              Hotscotch pepper
              Aubergine(black beauty)
              Sweet baby tomato
              Red and yellow Pygmy tomatoes
              Asparagus seeds now soaking
              Red and sweet basil
              Garlic and standard chives
              Perpetual spinach
              Shallot seeds
              Mesclun mixed salad leaves
              Mixed stir fry leaves
I have been a little busy, windowsills and propagators all full (nearly)

I also have a couple dozen early peas overwintering and some chilli plants overwintering

I think that they do nearly equally well started on the date they recommend but I personally really enjoy nurturing my seedlings and spending time hardening them off on bright days, you get the benefit of established roots and the slightly longer season for the slow growers.

Yesterday sowed 4 types of chilli seed - Naga Jolokia, Habanero, Scotch Bonnet and Tobasco. Sowed in smallish dishes in compost and covered over with cling film. Hoping for some positive results!!!

We had the same problem Nicos - no windowsills! plus no central heating etc etc. We now have a heated soil cable in a trough in the 'conservatory' (read ugly glass box) though, which did wonders last year . But well, er, I've still not planted anything yet
