Weeds are certaily way in front of last year............unles I'm getting lazier.

This time last year I had all beds prepared, weeded and with crops in them. This year I'm only 75% there!
I'm sitting here wincing every time I click the mouse as my right hand forefinger is numb with pulling nettles out at the allotment this evening.

Supposed to be good for rheumatism/arthritis anyway!

Toms are on target, about the same as last year. Pots are the same too. Chillies are a few weeks behind they' re only 6 inches tall so far.

My potatoes are looking decent- already flowering, and barely behind at all. It's the peas and broad beans that are being lazy, even my overwintered broadies are only just starting to develop pods- they were finished by this time last year.

Most other plants seem to be catching up, and my sole tomato plant is the biggest I've ever had for the time of year. Probably it's just had more attention, being an only plant.

Potted up half a dozen aubergines I was given. Lifted my garlic which wasn't as good as last year but was a way to use the greenhouse through the winter. Had a general tidy up of greenhouse and watered everything that needed it.

It was a very slow start but most things are now catching up. Runner beans about 3ft up the canes, Broad beans beginning to get some pods on, shallots, garlic and salad leaf all ready or very close.
I have given up with the carrots and parsnips that I started back in March as they were almost none existent!

I'm in the camp that says, slow start but decent harvest. Any improvement on last year surely has to be worth waiting a little longer for

My Hawthorn tree was about 4 weeks behind last year. The blossom has only just fully come out ...I've tried explaining that it's called 'May' blossom for a reason, but to no avail

Tomatoes and peppers are about 3 or 4 weeks behind.

Elder buds are starting to turn white, and I spotted one cluster on a bush by the roadside on sunday. Usually it's a few weeks earlier, but Elderflowers are usually a good indicator of over all progress, I think...

Peas were six feet tall this time last year, are just under 12 inches. Early potatoes were out and eaten, are only thinking about flowering. Tree cabbage and kale were being picked and eaten, are barely on their third leaf this year. Everything is a good four to six weeks behind for me.

Im about a month behind too. Most things are still only a few inches tall and the broad beans just kinda gave up (except one random one that magically appeared in a tub of bedding plants!). Going to have to resow my spinach, carrots and beetroot as they just never bothered to come out at all.

Potatoes, tomatoes matching last year. Broad beans and especially peas a mile behind. Chillies, etc... are very sluggish, hard to say if they're behind or just going to be small. Carrots haven't been eaten by snails (yet) which is a positive. Overwintered onions haven't started to swell, which I take for a very bad sign. Salad leaves took a long time to get going.

I'm not behind at all! I didn't get my plot until into April last year so I'm well ahead of the game this time round.

Problem is, even though the days have warmed up nicely it's still bloomin' cold at night. With temperatures below 10degreesC the French and runner beans still look most unhappy, as do some of the pumpkin/squashes. I'm just about to lose my second planting out of cucumbers, I think, which seem to suffer most. Serves me right for planting a variety called Delikatess - they seem to be a bit delicate! I may have to rely on the greenhouse ones, although I might have one more spare.

On the plus side, I don't seem to be having the same problem with slugs so far (touch wood). I'm hoping the little blighters were decimated during the winter, but I expect they'll be back.
