At AGM last night I presented the paper on why Glysophate should be banned and it was agreed that in future neglected plots would be strimmed to keep weeds in check and glysophate will no longer be used.

I assume the GM corn was sprayed with glyphosate though you don't say so. In the interest of balance and keeping the central point of the thread on topic now show us a photograph of the dead birds that ate the GM corn please.Originally posted by binley100 View Postof course you could always sow some of monsanto's gm corn ........wouldn't even have to worry about the birds eating it........

If the council are diligent then that sounds like a sensible outcome.Originally posted by Sheneval View PostAt AGM last night I presented the paper on why Glysophate should be banned and it was agreed that in future neglected plots would be strimmed to keep weeds in check and glysophate will no longer be used.

I think the point is that nature knows best, and when wildlife are making a choice about what to eat, and are not choosing a Monsanto contaminated crop...and they can't read the reports on what is best...then perhaps you have to consider that Monsanto might just be lying to us.Originally posted by LincolnshireFloyd View PostI assume the GM corn was sprayed with glyphosate though you don't say so. Or not...after all, why would they? It's not like they make a profit on sales is it?
Hang on a minute....

I think the 'central point' of the thread was that the OP was upset that their plot had been sprayed without their knowledge or consent, and what they could do to mitigate that. There were a few answers which dealt with that before the thread was derailed into an argument...Originally posted by LincolnshireFloyd View PostIn the interest of balance and keeping the central point of the thread on topic....
That wouldn't be my decision, which is lucky because I wouldn't be unbiased! ***** fluid was banned because it was being advocated for use in a manner which is no longer legal. In general, I don't agree with censorship, but it is getting a little tedious trying to mediate in discussions between pro- and no-chemical debates when I, and most of the other mods feel quite strongly about it. As long as it's legal, I agree that people have the right to choose, and my job here means I have to uphold that right, but the pro- faction trying to persuade the anti that they're wrong, it's safe, everything's fine, makes my blood boil...Originally posted by bearded bloke View PostEy up Sarz,if you do decide to ban the words glyphosate & roundup from the forum

I think the main points were:-
Why wasn't the prospective allotmenteer not told the plot had been sprayed with a weedkiller?
Who had sprayed it?
With what?
We are all asuming it was glyphosate, but it could have been anything really, including something having a residual component. My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Indeed Snadge & as we all know assumption is the mother of most muck-ups,there is even one in the original post .........
... I like to think that my veg patch looks well tendedOriginally posted by Pineberry View PostApparently he uses weed killer as well, and judging by some other well manicured plots quite a few people on our site are fond of such poison.
it took me six years of hard graft to dig out the bindweed by hand & would be extremely offended if I knew anyone assumed it was cleared by the application of weed killing chemicals
That said I am happy to use glyphosates on the weeds that grow on my tarmac drive & brick paved areas.

I think you can eat what grows on your plot as stated, it's hardly likely to be worse than what you buy in the shops. But in subsequent years you can enjoy more and more chemical free food. It's a lovely feeling as well as a lovely taste.
As an end note, I'd mention that as a person who works in the health sector I'm bound by 'Evidence Based' practise. I emailed council yesterday with these kind question, so am just awaiting their reply.
Will post what they say.

Did not mean to offend anyone, I envy some of the pristine plots as some yes are cleared by long hours of hard work, while others by easy application of ******* fluid (judging by yellow stains around)Originally posted by bearded bloke View Post... I like to think that my veg patch looks well tended

Mine will be rough and rustic around the edges though.

It is not necessarily that they drop dead from eating it but rather the long term effects of this ie cancers, malformations, fertility you name it.Originally posted by LincolnshireFloyd View PostI assume the GM corn was sprayed with glyphosate though you don't say so. I am concerned about health of my kids and the place they live in, that's why I asked about it.

my main point there was that I am greatly of the opinion that as the old saying goes.... there is a tool for the job & a job for the tool.
