Yeah, half of it seemed to be potato skin filled with slime.

Sarico,
No secret really. I use Picasso for main crop, 4 seeds to the bin, top up as already posted, keep well watered, feed with Miracle Grow (high nitrogen) between week 6 and 16 and thereafter with Tomorite (High potash). Let the haulms die back and turn brown, cut them off and havest 3 to 4 days later.
What I can tell you is there are people out there who do a lot better than me.

If you can provide an undercover (preferably frost free environment) for them, yes.
I've sown Spuds (Charlotte) in August before, moved them into my cold greenhouse when frost was expected and had a good crop for Christmas. It probably was a mild winter though, I can't remember.

They look lovely - wait until the foliage starts die back or have a furtle in a few weeks.Originally posted by SIMON&JAYNE View Postthese are mine and im not sure when they will be ready im in my first year at growingLook deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Thanks again Colin. I will definitely try next year. I did as you said for my early potatoes and they where lovely even if where on average 1lb of potatoes in each bucket. Now I will try some potatoes for Christmas. When do you think I should plant them?Originally posted by Potstubsdustbins View PostSarico,

Nothing wrong with having a furtle ...I use large pots for early season spuds and just slip out whole lot out on a plastic sheet then pick tubers from edge and then carefully return the lot to the pot. (need to have right moisture content) That said, if you cause too much root disturbance they can flop.Originally posted by lukens View PostWhat is the problem with pulling them early? Is it likely to affect the total crop? I'm assuming the plants will go on producing in the bags, and the potatoes I pulled out were nice and tasty, and of decent size, so could see no harm, have I made an error? I'd read somewhere to just pull ones out when ready, the younger the tastier - was this bad advice?
Another question, I accidentally pulled out the seed potato from the base of one plant, is this a problem, or now the plant has grown, is it' job done?
