Walking Onion seeds

I landed a packet of Walking onion seeds, this came in a paper envelope from a man in the gardening club, he had no idea what to do with them.


What time of the year can you start these from seeds?
Googled bu it's look like most people start these from sets.

I didn't even know they produced seeds. Mine don't, they produce bulbils not a flower, very odd. Mind you aliums are a bit odd aren't they. I would think now would be a good time to start them. It's not like you have to worry about them 'bolting', as that's generally what they're supposed to do.

I've got some in my garden they've formed their top bulblets so in a few months time mine will be walking for the first time

a - are you sure they are seeds and not bulbils?
b - whatever they are, you can sow them pretty much any time.

It does say on that link that they occasionally produce flowers, but it is very rare for this to happen or for them to produce viable seed. Good luck with them. Mine have gone a bit crackers this year. The only recently formed bulbils are sending out shoots/stalks all over the place. They look a right mess at the mo.

Yes, seeds not bulbils, will stick these in modules and will see what comes out.

I think last year they produced a nice neat little cluster of bulbils with the occasional one producing a branch. This year they've gone 'bad hair day'. The bulbils are smaller too, which is annoying, as last year they were probably big enough to pickle.

I love these onions. I grow seven different types of onions and these are my favorites.

I have no idea what you have, but would venture to say that they are not the same thing as I have. Mine reproduce by bulbils not seeds, but I have seen stranger things in my day.
