im sure when i was at school (history) we learn't about people in the army being trained to eat their boots (when they where made out of leather) as a last resort - i think it was a story from when we where fighting the native americans - although im not sure!

sorry to disappoint but my purple podded peas were green inside the pod

So I was right in the first place.

I'll have to do a bit more searching.
