cucumber recommendations please

Hello all

What cucs do you grow and what do you recommend please. Interested in one ot two plants in a polytunnel (in a pot) and on the allotment as well.

i have grown (bella) f1 for the last 3 yrs loverly flavour and crisp mainly because i got the seeds in wyevales end of season sale at 50p a packet this year with me having more greenhouse space i am going to try the bambino blanca as well its a small white variety but will stick with the bella also

I only grow outdoor cucumbers and this year grew Esmaraude for the first time. It did very well, I was pleased.

Previously I've grown Burpless Tasty Green (excellent) and Marketmore (didn't have much success with this - might have been the weather). I won't be growing Marketmore again.

Next year (2012) it will be Esmaraude again.

Crystal Lemon usually does well for me

For the last 3 years I have grown F1 Baribal, all female mini type. It gave me 20 plus nice crisp cumbers per plant last year, needless to say I shall be growing it again this year.

My fun cumber this year will be Dragons Egg, it's supposed to taste like a honeydew melon, we shall see.

Never had any success with cucumbers, inside or out - I did manage to actually get one whole cucumber this year in the conservatory, then the plant (along with the rest of the plants in it, bar the chillis) died.
Previously I did outside both in pots and in the ground, both lots didnt make it past 8 inches. Inside grew well, flowered but no fruit.....so I dont think I'll be bothering this year!

Oooh sounds nice to actually say 'this' year instead of 'next' doesnt it?

In the tunnel I grow pasanda which is great. Not the cheapest seeds but a single plant produces loads. I do however find that it is better in the tunnel border than in pots, probably due to better access to water and nutrients. Also grow crystal lemon inside and out but it is better in as the skins are more tender.

Under cover, or outside Donna? I saved seed from HSL 'Sigmadew' last year, a long, very pale green greenhouse variety. They were prolific and tasted fab. If you'd like a few seeds, PM me your address. The only thing is, they have to be grown on their own, because you leave the male flowers on the plants, and so they would spoil any all-female varieties you tried to grow.

If you want to stick to F1/all-female types, I'd recommend Tiffany, they're quite cheap for an F1 but perform really well in an unheated greenhouse

Give them a go Thelma Marketmore were fine for me last year I had one in the soil & another in a pot,potted was marginally more productive but I think that was due to it being better sited for the hottest sunshine of the day.
