Been picking unknown beans for weeks now, think they may be painted lady as thats what I have grown before and saved seeds, but someone gave me some that I popped in with them last year to make up the row so have no idea what I have. Moonligt on bottom plot, others on top plot.Gardening ..... begins with daybreak
and ends with backache

mine are from old saved seeds... i have about half a dozen beans about 6inch long so a boiling at the weekend.. the rest are still either in flower or with tiny beans just developing.
Gee i love runner beans and have a double row with about 20 plants per side, all planted at different times to give a good spread.
Plus a double row of climbing french beans with 12 plants per side.... some of these too are in flowers, so they wont be long either.

Er... no. Like most things on our plot this year the runners are woefully behind cos they got nobbled by frost in JUNE. The fenchies look like they really can't be bothered and to be frank I aint gonna bother with THEM next year. I think our site is just too cold for the poor, fragile, little wussies.Originally posted by jackie j View Post... anyone else got any yet.

I've done ok with Frenchies these last couple of years Shady but this year they aren't as far along as the runners, so I'd suggest it probaby isn't your plot, it's more likely the weather. Mind you, do you have climbers or dwarf beans because I've found that when it comes to French Beans, the climbers do much, much better than dwarf varieties in our garden.Originally posted by Shadylane View PostThe fenchies look like they really can't be bothered and to be frank I aint gonna bother with THEM next year. My Moonlights have set but aren't very big yet. Still, I live in hopes!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
