Oops - well, that's my too-early-planted-out toms done for, then. Oh well - I've got some in the greenhouse as well.

What a difference a few hundred miles makes. No sign of frost here last night and only got down to plus six. Forecast for rest of week is good with lowest night temp plus six.

We had a thin layer of frost on the car Tuesday morning - but the potatoes in bags seem to have survived (so far, I checked later Tuesday) and the courgettes and beans were in the cold frame which was half-closed so I hope they are also OK
Didn't dare check the greenhouse - aargh! fingers crossed...

          Anxious night.

          +4.7 degrees here though.
chucked bits of bubble-wrap over beans and sweetcorn, and buckets on choice fruiting strawberry plants, and decided que sera sera.

          (all that "-5" and "-3.5")

Here in the soft south, I decadently planted some runner beans out in early march which continue to thrive despite last night.
          Must get more sensible though.

No sign of frost when I left for work at 7:30 noe when OH took dog for a walk at 5am.

Min temp in poly over night was +1.8°C. Everything looked OK, early spuds, some toms and dwarf french & runner beans. Will have to wait and see how they do.

              Got away with it!!!!

0C her last night and frost. Toms peppers and aubergines were covered but was too lazy to cover the strawberries ans the spuds are almost too big and too many. French beans seem ok as well. Will get out and cover more of them tonight as we are in a frost pocket.

It went down to 4C here last night, measured on a thermometer on our bird table's post, so it was probably just about freezing at ground level. Last year I planted some tomatoes in a flower bed in May, they were all caught by frost and then got blight, so everything we've planted out so far is covered with either fleece or cheap poly-cloches. We seem to have got away with it, so far.

Everything of mine is fine, except for one potato plant that managed to shove some leaves above ground in between me earthing them up yeaterday afternoon, and the frost hitting in the middle of the night... Was only the top 3 leaves though, so hopefully they'll resprout...

Seems to have missed me, minimum temp last night was 3.5C had the heater on in the GH that stayed at 9C.

+1 in the placcie greenhouse. I chucked blankets on tatties in tubs and strawbs just in case. The wild strawbs are fine and weren't covered so I'm guessing we didn't get a frost. On our allotment, judging by the damage (not tatties - still covered and/or earthed up) I'd say it was around minus 8

I could, but yes, it's a bit of a faff.

Me, and my 2 lottie neighbours lost the tops off all the spuds, but the fleeced toms were fine. I lost a few squashes - but not all [strangely]....but I have plenty more to replace them.

And one lottie neighbour had put his beans out - I did say - and he's lost the lot. He's away and not back until Sat so I might email him to prepare him for the shock, but not until Sat morning....

0c on the car dash at 4:20am. Came home from work this afternoon and everything seems to be ok although the leaves from the potatoes in their growbag were all droopy and smaller in size. Hopefully they'll pick up again.

Went to the allotment Tuesday evening and earthed up the potatoes that were up, haven't been back today as work interrupts! I did notice the plot in front of mine had planted out runners over the weekend and these were flapping about like hankies - white from the cold wind - even before the cold night last night. I wonder whether they survived the night?
