What I did today 2012-2014

Had a chat with the mangetout Tried encouraging them to reach skyward for the netting instead of grovelling along the ground where they might meet up with snivelling snails and slimy slugs. They seemed to understand as whenl I stretched them up to the netting they wrapped their little tendrils about it and clung on for dear life.

Weeded brassica beds and harvested all my cabbage for a now jam packed freezer. Lots of calabrese heads too. Some for dinner, rest in freezer. Harvested garlic, shallots and onions - tomorrow's job to dry them out. Weeded that bed too - planted beetroot in it.
Planted celeriac, somewhat belatedly. Watered half the plot. Spent four hours up there today - want to do the same tomorrow. Have had fun watching the bees all over the cerinthe and phacelia.

Pruned my grapevine of wayward shoots. Whilst I had the secateurs in my hand I pruned the blackcurrant branches that had been robbed of blackcurrants by some crittar.
Single handedly moved my park bench which needs restoring. It has a brass plaque on it stating it was presented to someone for summat but the woodwork is warped and rotten.
With bench out of the way i could do some serious weeding of the area it had stood on.
Thinned out my swedes.

Got down the allotment for an hour after work, watered stuff and weeded the onions that were starting to get buried.

I was just about to leave when a committee member who had been spraying an unused plot with glyphosate offered to use up the rest on the so-far-uncultivated section of my plot.

Forgive me grapes for I have sinned ... I accepted his offer...



From now on I'm definitely going to be more organic though...

Picked some spinach, perpetual spinach, chives, garlic, pak choi leaves, nettles, willowherb, dandelion and my newfound friendly surprise plant nipplewport .
Had a stir fry .
Not much else but a bit of watering in the greenhouse

Last night I was mostly eaten alive by midges! Oh and watering carrots. Blooming midges grumble gumble......

This morning I shook my tomato flowers, I wonder if anyone else does this. Picked some lettuce and spinach leaves for my sandwiches. Took two photos and put on Facebook.

Watered and damped the greenhouse.
Non horti/botani/garden stuff.
Put a module tray of something or other that has started germinating into a gravel tray I saw for 75 pence at the market but was charged 25 pence.
25 pence! That's the garden spend up to �12.25 this year which is needlessly extravagant.

spent all of this morning looking out of the window for it to stop raining the entire day i had planned to be at the allotment clearing and getting things into shape now more look as though it will only be an hour or 2 today ahwell........

Spent all day in the garden - so hot -
Did a final clearance on 2 patches of ground and planted one with seedlings of chard, kale, strawberry spinach and some going over mispoona. Broadcast miscellaneous old seeds around them - hoping to create some edible ground cover.
Sowed a mixed up selection of old, dwarf french beans in the other patch. Scattered more miscellaneous seeds over the top. Will be interesting to see if any of these old seeds grow and identifying them
