What I did today 2012-2014

Collected 4 bin liners of leaves, worryingly mostly ash.
Scraped the frosted courgette, aubergine, pepper, squash, nasturtium, pepper, chillie, bean plants up onto their respective beds and left them to finish wilting. Collected all the remaining produce from above.
Turned a compost bin, which was stupid given bad back.
Tied in Mermaid.

Took delievry of a blackcurrent (Ben Sarek) and redcurrent (Junifer) from Mr Fothergills as a freeebie from the magazines. They looked qite dried out do put roots in water (pending putting in pots this weekend.

Dibbed in with a broken bamboo cane red electric onions, some Shakespeare onions and something Gris shallots. As well as some tulips. Had left my dibber in dad's shed, so I was little annoyed with myself.

Emptied ten bags of leaves into the raised beds and builders bags.

Weeded the paths round the veggie beds. Painted a wall, planted out some pinks from T&M ( should have been a bumper pack but.... Netted the kale which has been reduced to a stalk by... well everything, picked some beetroot and looked at the Hellebores which have big fat buds on them.

Potted up a dozen strawberry plants. Planted some collards,broccoli, cabbage plants to overwinter in the gh. Stripped the dried French bean seeds from pods for next years seeds. Made green tomato soup-a bit sour, needs a bit of cream I think.

Cleared one bed of weeds, and dead sweet corn plant. Mulched around existing plants with leaves and soil improver. Also a little ash from the bonfire. Watered lettuce seedlings in coldframe and put bubble wrape over the chilli and aubergine plants I'm attempting to overwinter in the other coldframe. They are tucked in nicely now.

Noticed someone had fired up the obligatory bonfire on the first day of the burning season. I've got an old shed part disassembled but can't bring myself to burn it on a bonfire when I can use it for fodder for my woodburning stove.
Took my seven labelled varieties of tomatoes I have for seed and seperated the pulp from them and put three of them into seperate jars to allow the stuff to ferment and the seeds to settle. Must hunt out some jars for the other varieties.

Yesterday gave the plants afternoon tea, and the seedlings as well. And planted in 4 strawberry plants between the house apples. Need some more to put in as well to fill the space and reduce mowing! Oh and to eat as well!
Today son finished the other half of the mowing and whippersnipping and watered the front plants.

I'm looking forward to getting out there tomorrow and doing some stuff.

Had help planting tulips and Shakespeare onions. This mean explaining, as he asked; how a bulb planter works.

Still have loads of shallots to plant though. And can't foist them all on Aunty Tish.

Greetings, all - I haven't visited the forum for yonx, but I'll make sure I visit more often from now on.
I haven't done any gardening today, and am not planning to, because the weather's atrocious, but recently I've harvested all my toms, most of them unripe, and yesterday I made green and red tomato and apple chutney with them and some bramleys (bought, unfortunately - I hope my apple trees will give me a good harvest next year).
Harvesting Swiss Chard from the allotment regularly, and my brussels sprouts are swelling nicely, so should be ready by Christmas.

No outside gardening here today, but I did plant some salad leaves in the greenhouse, and some basil (sweet, red leaved, lime and minette) for my kitchen window sill.

There was a big, strange glowing ball in the sky today, so I actually made it down to the plot. Planted out a couple of raspberries -Glen Ample, have some All Gold waiting too, but the magical glowing thing disappeared behind some trees, and the council got the chainsaws out just over the fence, so I decided to leave them for another day.

Mulched another bed; one more definitely needs weeding and mulching, but I'm actually almost keeping up with stuff this autumn, yay!

- started chitting the broad beans
- put two dead mice in the compost bin, baited the traps again
- emptied remaining tomato plants into compost bin
- the chillies are still alive, so brought indoors to see if they feel like fruiting this year
- finished podding the last dry kidney/butter beans
- posted off my parcel for the Bean Swap
- collected another 9 sacks of autumn leaves for leafmould
- poured another 3" of rainwater out of the outside trays
- sewed the dog some jammies out of leftover tee shirt material

Today I went shopping! Had lunch at a garden centre. Went to the native seeds and plants place to check out some stuff for reveg'ing the farm.
Bought 2 autumn fruiting raspberries (because only one of my summer ones is growing) some rosemary to plant near where I'm planning to have an outdoor bbq. Some lavendar. Some parsley and a chocolate cosmos! Also got some shadecloth to put behind the deckside garden. A handle for the metal rake, some soaker hoses, and a couple of timers for the taps.
It was raining all last night, and all today, but after we got home and put the seedlings out, it stopped straight away

Planted up a tray full of garlic cloves which came from three and a half large garlic heads I bought at Aldi.(I'll use the other half of the fourth garlic head, plus my puny stock of home grown stuff for cooking)

Took off another sunflower head for the chooks before the local parrot population pillaged them. I kid you not, we have a flock of four high flying green parrots which have ravaged some of my other sunflower heads.
As an aside, I was standing at the door of a Sainsbury's mini mart looking at their high flying antics. The security guard approached me and asked me what I was looking at. "Just a flock of four high flying parrots " says I "You been on the home brew again " says he!
