What I did today 2012-2014

Got two thirds of the way through disassembling a greenhouse before it finds a new home in my garden.
It's taken two hours to get that far but one hour of that was spent in the dark and I reckon it will be reassembled by lunchtime tomorrow...watch this space.

I planted out some Lily of the Valley that was bursting into life also some Lupins. Moved some snowdrops 'in the green' and split them up.

planted some Broad Bean Martock yesterday as it was a moon planting fruity day - also managed get some Sugar Snap Cascada in before the cat decided to sit on the bag of compost!

dug over the new bed - managed to get 3 barrows of weeds out of it. then i planted the red onions in trays in the greenhouse. checked on the onions, peas, cauliflower, pak choi and broad beans and they all have germinated.

i've been in a shop and i found for 79p an alpine strawberry starter pack.. of course i bought it and i seed them in they own propagator sit on the windowsill...

Managed to dig over a quarter of my new plot and removed all the weeds from it today (no, I'm not superwoman - it's only 1/3rd of a full plot). I'm trying to get it ready to put the soft fruit bushes on it and am catching up at last now that it's stopped raining.

Well I didn't get it finished by lunchtime, that was a bit too optimistic, but it is now assembled and only a few bolts need tightening up a little.

Potted up chitted "Onward" Peas and "Oregon Sugar Pod" Mange Tout into saved loo roll/kitchen towel tubes.
Sowed Webbs Wonderful and Ballon Romaine Lettuce.
Dug in grass clipping mulch on two beds.
Weeded Globe Artichoke bed.
Pulled old cabbage stalks from brassica bed, weeded and mulched with homemade compost.
Dug up strawberry plants for moving to new - bigger - bed, potted up lots of runners.
Blocked up gap at the side of the sheds as Beau has discovered that if he goes back there the hedge is thin enough for him to get through into the next field!

- Garden Club: they planted (half price, out of date) crocuses & alliums, while I
- scraped cat poop off their shoes
- picked up all the scary worms & spiders to stop them screaming
- dug holes for them because their little hands aren't strong enough
- swept all the mud back onto the beds
- filled in all the holes they made
- replanted all the bulbs they dropped on the tarmac
- put the compost in the daleks because they couldn't reach, and are scared of worms

Did some pruning on the 'thicket' of gooseberries along the edge of my plot. Dug up a couple of new plants that I'd Layered last year with a view to growing half standards.

It's like Christmas! Today my April GYO mag arrived with free carrot, rocket and kale seeds, and my asparagus crowns from last month's T&M offer also came, complete with the '3 packets of veg seed' unnamed in the offer which turned out to be carrot 'Healthmaster F1' (a purple one!), a salad mix and tomato 'yellow stuffer' from the heritage collection. So what I will be doing today is planting asparagus crowns. Yippee!

Sowed some Gerkins, some sprouts, some peppers( Marconi) and some Cedrico-ish tomato seeds (second generation)

Mowed the meadow.
Turned compost bin contents into empty compost bin interlayering with fresh grass clippings.
Opened the doors of the sheds. Closed them again and tried to pretend I'd dreamed the state they were in.
Took a deep breath and opened them again.
Emptied first shed, doing a nifty little dance when I disturbed a couple of mice in a corner.
Sorted out and replaced contents.
Stacked three compost bags-ful of accumulated rubbish outside ready for the dustman.
Emptied second shed.
Decided I will not have to buy any pots for the next 200yrs.

Lit incinerator. Burned some broken staves, canes and some dried out perennial weeds.
Harvested the last of my leeks.
Took said leeks home, sliced, washed (twice) and left them to drain. Ready for a light saute and freezing tomorrow.
Realised that it takes more than one shower to get the smell of bonfire out of ones hair.

Took four black bags of rakings from eldest's front garden to add to the bag of leaves pile. Created and dug two beds either side of the path and put up archway ( that had been passed on from someone giving up) to grow beans etc up . Planted some more red shallots and fleeced them ready for the flight of the allium leaf miner, tipped out and moved a dalek scaring a little mouse in the process, tidied up yellowy leaves from psb ,harvested some psb, leeks and pathetic celeriac . went to see an exhibition about what's happening with the old factory site behind our house. Cooked tea. got Spiced cider and apple jelly on the go ........and sleep

Finished tightening up the remaining nuts and bolts in the greenhouse, then started washing and squeegee-ing it, got fed up of soapy water running down my arm after the first half was done so left the other side for now. Started arranging buckets and containers inside, deciding what was going to go where and how I can best manage my grow-space, then couldn't resist getting my hands dirty and got most of them filled with compost. Ran out of compost so had to take another trip to B&Q to buy more. Separated three strawberry plants, which were sharing a pot, so they each have a pot of their own now and are the first plants to make their way into their new glass home.
