I've been looking into some interesting tests that seem to show pelleted chicken poo repels cats. I must admit that I've never had any cat problems on my raised beds since using it so will be investigating further.

A friend of mine uses it and she's always got cat's pooping in here allotment.

Apparently "Lion Poop" works...but ya don't want one of them pooping in ya garden

My bug problems are caterpillars, vine weevils and green fly. Slug's aren't a problem. I just chuck um in mi salt bucket... Simples

Rabbits, birds and cattle.

Repaired the fences now so hopefully the latter will be staying out of my garden.

Have chicken wire to fence round the raised beds so hopefully the rabbits will be less of a problem and am going to try my hand at building a scarecrow this year to help with the birds. Will probably put a few seaside windmills in too.

Blackfly, slugs and caterpillars. I'm feeding all of the latter two I can find to the chickens this year, so hopefully that will keep the numbers down.

My worst pest has got to be work getting in the way of time on the lottie.

After that it would be slugs, blackfly and pigeons on the lottie, and cats, caterpillars, and whitefly in the garden.

I think it all depends on what you grow where.

Cabbage root fly, cats and most destructive of all the local vandals and I know which pellets I would like to use on the pests.

Yup slugs although most of them seem to find their way into my worm farms - easy pickings I guess for the veg food waste I suppose.
Got a huge black cat problem too. Pesky thing thinks it owns the place and finally squirrels. Wife and daughter say they're cute. Cute my hin end! My son wants a squirrel gun- I'm sorely tempted
Don't seem to have any insect-type problems at all. They haven't found me yet!

Cabbage Whites in the main.

Vine Weevil in the green house last year, but thats been eradicated now.

The wife wanting to plant/sow things too early (but she's getting better now )

I'm surprised no body has mentioned the new allium pests... Allium leafminer and the Leek moth. They've devastated our local allotment leeks for the past 2 years.

I think the 3 worst pests here are Pidgeons, Caterpillars and slugs, caterpillars demolished around 1/3 of our brassicas in 2010, even with netting to stop butterflies and moths laying eggs!

Unfortunately most of the netting that is sold to keep butterflies out actually allows them to stick their bodies through and lay eggs on the plants. The netting then protects the caterpillars from birds and also makes it difficult to manually remove them.

The netting either needs to be 0.5cm x 0.5cm but raised at least 6 inches above the plants, or otherwise needs to be 1.3mm x 1.3mm or smaller if in contact with the plants. The problem with this small netting is that it's very expensive and restricts water and air flow.

As I've mentioned before, I'd give the new plastic strip covering called VeggieThrow a try. I was certainly very impressed!
