        Ouch. Hope he's back on the plot as soon as possible.

        I put plastic milk bottles on my canes. Rattles in the wind and scares the birds away, plus saves me and my clumsy self from poking my eyes out.

          The worse accident i ever heard about is a pensioner that decided it was a good idea to cut his hedge with a circular saw. The outcome wasn't very pretty, i won't describe the details, but it sure would have hurt in the morning!

                I want to wish good health for your father.

                To avoid sharp pointed tips/objects I will add that

                If you are using sharp pointed objects like canes... then take a cotton wool or old piece of cloth and wrap it around the exposed tip of the cane. Then take a thread and wrap it over the cotton, wool or cloth and tie a knot over it.. This way , the tip wont be sharp any more, and it wont be blowing away with the wind.
