I bought some comfrey plants, booking 14 from Ryton Garden Organic. I had prior to that bought two standard comfrey plants. Mine are in a fairly free draining soil but a lot state they do well in clay. You are welcome to some of mine when established next year (if the hens stay off it)!

Happily exhausted from yesterdays plantings! Planted in: Maincrop & 2nd earlies tatties, radish, salsify, 2 types carrotts, 2 types of garlics, and shallotts. Then watered everything super well and fertilized fruit trees.
Also dug up weeded bottom section, tilled over and pounded in pegs for bottom fence line. Not bad for 6 hours worth
Peaceful days are in the garden!

I had planted all my early potatoes when my dear husband volunteered to dig me 4 trenches for next lot. All done in a few minutes but soil (clay ) so dry that the clods he had put to side for refilling trenches were so hugh and hard that I couldn't find anywhere to walk between rows and kept falling over nor could i break them up. I had to cart compost to trenches to put below potatoes and on top and then get him to come back to fill trenches in . Again ,he did in a few minutes. Me, it took me hours to do my bit + a lot of tears at my reduced ability. On the bright side when he dug over some spare area near potatos a blackbird decided to get it's lunch from the bed and came right up to husbands feet to gather the exposed worms, time and time again, wish i had my camera with me.Sown salsify and sczoronera ??? ,turnip in short rows. I NEED RAIN, not had any for so long now. Why do I have a passion/hobby that causes so much pain and discomfort. allotment wins every time, to hell with pain, it's not causing me any damage so keep plodding on - i get there eventually, ps it's easier to plant potatoes with a big dipper.

HiOriginally posted by salilah View PostPlanted out a tray of beetroot yesterday, and sowed another tray. No other roots as I don't seem to grow that many - don't really like carrots, and parsnips take up too much space!
Flowering - ho hum... I've done most I think - though for some reason I can't seem to get Comfrey to germinate! Any suggestions?
Where did you get the seeds? Proper comfrey - the really good stuff Bocking 14 - is sterile from seed so needs to be grown from root cuttings.

Comfrey - Herbs - Thompson & Morgan
I did read somewhere that they can take up to 30 days to germinate - in a heated prop! - so perhaps I've been giving up too soon? However, yes, I think I'll have to give up and get some cuttings...

Repotted my two remaining chilli peppers and enjoyed the weather. Espaliered a pear tree and burnt my shoulders a nice rosy brown. Nothing sown as all done pretty much save my sweetcorn. Will pull that in on last day of 24th. Picked off all side V shoots on my established greenhouse toms!Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Synodic - This is not a good time to be sowing anything in the garden. Instead use this time to weed and harvest from the garden. It is an excellent time to start building a new compost heap.

Thanks VVG for the reminders!
I'm quite pleased so far - not sticking to this religiously, but I've been trying at least to sow the "right" stuff on the right days... Most things are germinating well (apart from my sweetcorn - oh well, might not be a 3 sisters bed this year either!) and growing on strongly. I've not done any comparisons though - enough time spent just getting what I need into modules or roottrainers!
How is anyone else finding the results to date?
