Hooray! Asparagus peeping through

Thank goodness, my asparagus is coming through! Was a little concerned as I had to transplant it back in February and know they don't like it so thought I might have lost them. This will be its third year so was hoping to harvest some. My question is will the fact that I've transplanted it set it back,meaning I won't be able to harvest as much as I normally would have done? (Does that make sense?)

I would see how much comes up, selfraising, and maybe only take a small crop if it's looking really strong and healthy. You don't want to set it back even further

I cheered my OH up immensely yesterday on the lottie, by finding a couple of tiny spears whilst weeding the asparagus bed. We've planted crowns two years in a row, following a very poor showing from the first lot we put in, and I think he was beginning to fear we were doomed to no asparagus, ever!

Will have to go out and see if there is any sign of mine doing anything. Now in its fourth year, but each year I seem to loose a plant during the winter and I only have about 5 left out of 20.

Gosh!!!- we'll have to wait at least another 3 weeks!!!

Yup- I'd crop sparingly- you're bound to have cut off some roots when transplanting?????

Mine's in its second year and most have started to show. The biggest ones being about as long as my thumb. I'll have to use all my will power to resist the 'till next year. Good luck with yours!

When ever I see them on pictures they look thicker..

They are 1yr old crowns..

Yipee! Looks like others are also getting signs of growth. How long can you harvest them for?

Indeed - last year ours were about the thickness of a kitchen skewer, but the one I found at the weekend (from 2-yr-old crowns) was the size of my little finger
