    Our council only cleans the beach during tourist season, and only the "tourist" beaches.

    I used to voluntarily clean my own stretch of beach (for Adopt-a-beach and Beachwatch) and what I picked up most was angler's litter (line, hooks, bottles, cans, bait packets, plastic bottles filled with sand) and stuff chucked down the toilet (sanitary towel liners, wet wipes and cotton buds).
