Mistakes, mishaps and miracles!

I don't know if this is a mistake or a mishap but for some reason lots of my seedlings are ridiculously leggy!
I haven't changed anything, same set up as every other year yet this lot of French beans, brassicas, lettuces etc seem to think they have been grown in a mushroom shed!
It's really weird

I'll plant them all deeply and save what I can. If the lettuces make it that will be a miracle

Don't know if it's a mistake or a challenge:- I sowed some Alderman pea seeds in the greenhouse bed. Might need to remove a couple of roof panes in a few weeks time.

Same here, my main cherry tomatoes are still tiny. It's a weird growing year for me already

Mistake…storing seeds in the barn in cardboard boxes…we must have several fat mice waddling around somewhere

A combination of mistake and mishap. I have lost about 15+ tomato plants, 1 aubergine, 2 courgettes and all my lark sweetcorn in this heatwave, so far.
I have had more weird beans going on, coming up blind or not coming up at all. I also had 2 different squash which also came up blind, (blind is my term for seedlings which produce seed leaves only and then die.

All in all it is becoming a very tricky year.

I don't think there's a term for what some of my CFBs did.....

I chitted them first & then when they started sprouting I popped them into some of those plastic tubs supermarket mushrooms come in - probably not quite as deep as they'd like to be but deep enough to grow on.

Anyway, they all started showing above the soil but a couple looked really weird - not even a seed leaf to be seen, just a stalky bit. I thought to myself, 'Oh well, let's see what they do, probably dud seed/blind plants' (I had more than enough 'normal' looking ones plus spares for my needs).

About a fortnight & several inches of growth later I finally furtled out a few of the ones that were just stalks. Seems I must have got bored of fiddling when I planted them - I'd put some of the seeds in with the root sprout pointing up instead of down/horizontally & they weren't able to twist themselves about enough. My blind stalks were in fact the root & the poor things were doing their best to grow upside down

I sowed some self-saved hardy geranium seeds in a pot yesterday, putting them about 0.5cm under the surface. Today, they were all on top of the compost. I thought really hard. I did remember burying them 'cos I used an old toothbrush handle to dib the holes. Hmm...

So I looked them up online, and surprise, surprise, they need light to germinate. I think the clever things had used the springy tail thing that I'd left on to push themselves back to the surface. Either that or I have fairy gardeners in the kitchen...

Andraste — I'd pick the flowers off for now. It sounds counterintuitive but letting them fruit when the plant is still too small and it's too cold just exhausts them. Get them planted out in proper warmth first, then let them do their thing.

I did pick them off in the end but I'm ashamed to admit I've sorely neglected my Cucs all round this year They're in desperate need of potting on now but I'd put it off as 1-2 will be grown outside on the plot (the other 1-2 will stay in the blowaway at home) & we've had a dip in temp. here that's made me delay.

They'll be going to the plot this weekend regardless. I'm convincing myself they'll be ok as last years plants went through a stage where I thought they were basically on their way out but then rallied & produced lots of fruit for me. Time will tell.

I've also made a note in my plot diary to remind myself that I started the seed too early so I don't make the same mistake next year
