Seed potatoes 2026

5 each of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (see what I did there!), Charlotte and Cara planted a fortnight ago. 5 rows of Maris Piper (45 tubers) planted today.

Unfortunately the nursery where I used to buy one or two tubers of this, that and the other shut last year. Ian the owner was well into his 70s but couldn't find a buyer sadly so I'm now rather limited for choice in my immediate area unless I want to go to the bunfight that is the East Anglian Potato Day! Another local nursery I use opens up some of the packs but insists you buy a minimum of 5 per variety for some reason, hence what I planted.

I sent OH for ours - choose your own not in packs - with a request for Charlotte & Desiree. Have no idea what he came home with as he just picked 'what looked good seed' & could only say 'that one is a second early, I think it's Charlotte....They didn't have Desiree so I got those red ones' Apparently he did look to see what they were called but stopped to talk to someone on the way home so promptly forgot

Yes, plenty of planting time left yet - at least get some earlies for 'new potatoes'.

We’ve just planted out our Maiwen spuds…bit early for us but needs must.
We’ll plant the Charlottes when we get back from holiblobs.
They have been very highly recommended , so fingers crossed they are frost resistant too

Never grown them before but they are apparently good for every type of recipe, nice flavour, blight resistant and produce a high yield of large potatoes..
Proof of the pudding of course……I’ll let you know how they get on!

Just got my Charlotte in last weekend, bit later than I'd have liked but the ground was still waterlogged from all that rain in March. Anyone else finding this spring particularly slow to dry out? Feels like everything is running about two weeks behind.
