  • Toms still outside advice

I am still getting toms in the greenhouse and outdoors which are doing remarkably well (first couple of days of rain in weeks) . As the danger of blight has passed, should I leave them on the vines outside or cut them off and bring in to ripen ?

    Thanks.

Mine are all grown outside and I've brought them all in to ripen now. They're in brown paper bags with a banana I would think your greenhouse grown will go on to ripen.

Yes I might do the same with the outside fruits as no sun these last few days so better next to ones indoors. Thanks.

I'm still leaving mine outside, and intend to until frost is forecast. I'm still picking ripe tomatoes every week (although they are becoming increasingly prone to splitting).

My greenhouse tomatoes even had a second wind back in early September, and those late tomatoes are now starting to ripen.

Its my best year as blight usually gets them earlier. It's been dry for months. Do I still feed them or leave ?

I wouldn't bother with feeding at this point. Just water them if they need it, and otherwise leave them to ripen.

The danger of blight has not passed. One of my plants at home started showing symptoms yesterday, and as it is raining at times now you need to keep an eye out for blight. It would do no harm to pick any that are showing any sign of changing colour, just to be on the safe side. They will ripen indoors.

Mine are still outside until frosts forecast. I’m picking every other day,not watering or feeding anymore. Pick them when they start changing colour, then they definitely ripen indoors, sometimes they’re too green to ever ripen off plant.

It hasn't passed completely, but the risk is now fairly low, despite the wet weather, because it's no longer very warm. Blight needs warm, wet conditions to spread effectively.

I’ve picked all my outdoor tomatoes- the skins were starting to thicken up so they are slowly turning red in a paper bag with a ripe banana seeing as I don’t have any windowsills.
