Tomatoes - when?

When does everyone get their tomatoes in their final place?

I'm quite late with frosts, can be early June. So wondering if that's causing it. This year even with the weather they have been slow. Or perhaps its the varieties I've tried.
A neighbour uses a poly tunnel and hers are always early and grows the same one type yearly. (I like to try different ones)

I found this site with a list of fast growing short season tomatoes, so I shall pick a few and try them next year as I grow outside and have no GH. It's a US site, but still quite relevant and helpful in places, I think.

Ah, shame. Most varieties don't seem to be available for the UK. Another plan up in smoke!

I've always grown mine outside (I don't have a greenhouse) and have grown many varieties over the years. They are rarely ready before September

Funny enough I've had some self seeders from my compost bin have appeared in one of my beds, I've left them and one has flowers now.
Might try some outside too next year. Do you have a favourite variety for outdoor?

I have a self seeder too, that has cheerfully grown hidden under the huge courgette leaves completely untended and never a sip of water. It has one truss of cherry toms, and I picked the first ripe one yesterday. I wish I knew the variety, but it must be from the one I grew last year, which was grown from saved seeds from a really sweet flavoured supermarket cherry tom.

My outdoor tomatoes go out when I have space for them which is usually late May or early June. In general cherry tomatoes are ready to pick earlier than full sized ones and mine (Sungold and Honeycomb) are usually ready in early August. If you like bigger tomatoes that do well outside, Mountain Magic is a prolific variety that does well in cooler temperatures and I have had great results with Oh Happy Day, which has beefsteak sized tomatoes usually starting to ripen towards the end of August. Both these varieties are blight resistant.

I usually put mine out in the greenhousesome time in May..it depends on the weather.
I grew a mix of large and cheer toms over the years.
I now lean towards the cherry ones as they ripen faster.
Sungold, Black Cherry, Cherry Falls, Piccolo,.

I've been picking outdoor tomatoes for about 2 weeks now, and greenhouse ones for about 4 weeks. About a week ahead of a normal year, no doubt thanks to the good weather.

I plant my greenhouse ones out in late April or early May, depending on the weather.
Outdoor ones usually go out late May.

All of mine are medium to large fruited varieties which take a little longer to ripen than small ones do.

I grow most of mine in a greenhouse and they go out typically when the nights are 10c so end of May - June. However, this year I had lots of little tommy seedlings that overwintered in the unheated greenhouse buckets from fallen fruits. I pricked out some from each of the buckets to try and get a good mix of whatever there was and these grew on outside from about the end of May. They started fruiting about a month ago and the greenhouse ones mid July, so not a lot of difference. They are all cherry varieties.
I plan to keep seeds from my new outdoor toms as they all tasted great and very much like the original F1 fruits, I've no idea if these will continue to taste as good and be true to themselves but its worth a go!

We've got a greenhouse so have been picking for a while, down in the SW. When we try new varieties we usually try one outside and one in the greenhouse. If we get desperate and haven't grown from seed and there's nothing very interesting in the garden centres or B&Q then we'd go for the old standby Gardeners Delight. Good outside, a nice tasting cherry and keeps going.

I always grow my tomatoes in grow bags so the final resting place is usually May (the picture attached was from 24th May) as in greenhouse. Will take a look at the seeds link as always looking for new varieties.

I planted my tomatoes in to their final bed in mid April and covered them at night with 30g. fleece till the overnight temperatures were holding up I pulled my first tomatoes end of June, I was getting quite a lot throughout July, but has slowed down a bit now, thought still a fair number to ripen, the average sized tomatoes that I have been pulling are Alacanti and those have given me a good crop, not sure the names of the others as the French marigolds that I always plant in the tomato bed have reached the hight of 2ft. I think someone has made a mistake when seed packing
