Not done it myself - unless you count forcing divisions & surplus harvest on friends/relatives/neighbours/random strangers lol. My grandfather used to get early rhubarb by sticking a bucket over the top - when the bucket got pushed off it was big enough to pick.

He had more than one lump of rhubarb so would alternate which one got the bucket treatment - the other got a year off & time to recover. A good dose of manure was also applied every year (feed the soil feed the plant & all that).

I wholeheartedly agree with Bren In Pots on the custard criteria

I picked my forced rhubarb at the weekend. I had to, the tallest stem had lifted the lid of the forcer!

Cooked it gently in the oven with a little sugar and the juice of an orange. it was delicious.

        Oh….how wonderful!
I’ve only had forced rhubarb once but can still remember the creamy sweet flavour!

Ten days earlier than last year, once again the rhubarb was lifting the lid of the forcer. I picked it yesterday and had some for supper, gently poached with a sprinkle of sugar and a teaspoon of orange oil. And custard

          The flavour was awesome!
