Yesterday I trimmed some of the finished lavender flower stems to tidy up. I put some of it under my Turks turban squash to keep it off the ground. I’m picking tomatoes every day (25 plants) when they’re changing colour, not when fully ripe,I leave them to ripen fully in the kitchen window, takes a few days. Doing this I shouldn’t be left with any green tomatoes when summer ends. There’s a few tomatoes I want to save seeds from so I’m leaving them now to fully develop on the plant in case they need the plant, maybe the seeds developing still, once I’ve picked those I’ll take the seeds out while making a sandwich, put them in water for a few days to clean off, then dry them & store for next year…I watered the broccoli with seaweed & put some grass cuttings underneath to stop weeds. Lifted the first tub of maincrop potato Desiree,I’m using the tub for my rocket seeds very soon. I cut the best dried flowers off the carrot & I’ll sow these next spring, they might like it here, seeds have memories from their mum
Went to mum's to cut the grass but it didn't need it. So I did some pruning, removing nettles, tied some things in and added some support canes here and there, bit of an effort to get them in the ground it being so dry.
Mowed the lawns, but got attacked by a horsefly in the wildlifey bit so moved to the veg garden and mowed there instead, thankfully the nasty creature didn't stalk me and I think I slapped it off before it had chance to bite me. I hate horseflies with a passion, they are evil.
Trimmed the edges round the veg beds. Watered all the pots and the greenshoues.
Harvested a huge amount of everything, which I will weigh and sort, some for the village shop and some for me!

I hadn’t realised I’d been nibbled by ants whilst hand weeding a small pathway. Despite an antihistamine tablet I feel like I’ve been thrashed with a bunch of nettles …all over.
‘Grat grat’ as the french say…much more onomatopoeia than ‘scratch scratch’

Sowed loads of seeds.
Fed the greenhouses.
Cleared some of the windfall apples and some old long forgotten pots of "dead stuff."
Squished some caterpillars.
Planted out my little alpine strawberry and chive seedlings.
Finally potted up some veronica cuttings that have been rooting in water for way too long and now have mildew. I hope they survive!
Enjoyed sitting in the gorgeous sunshine.

Weeded, made more melon hammocks & removed some more tomato leaves. Noticed a tallish young potato plant growing amongst some melons in a large tub, that’ll be interesting later on in the year,I must’ve missed a potato when I harvested the tub
Opened the front door at 10.30pm last night & saw a hedgehog on the grass,so good to see. We’d had good rain yesterday so easy digging & probable snails
Watered the greenhouses, no time for anything else. Desperately need rain, not for in the greenhouses of course
