  • Dug out the golden hop that I killed off (deliberately) earlier in the year and extended the dahlia bed, planting 4 more overwintered dahlias.
    Watered both greenhouses.
Potted on a little acer sapling that is the self seeded offspring of my big acer tree.
Potted on a rosemary that I grew from seed last year and had completely forgotten about.
Potted on 3 gooseberry plants, now coming up to 2yrs old.
Refilled the water drippy bottles on the squashes and courgettes.
Put up another 2mx2m rope (string) mesh on the triple arches for the ipomoea and beans to scramble up.

My list of jobs is finally getting shorter!
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

    • Lifted the first few potatoes for dinner, when this bags empty I’ll plant a tomato & marigold in the bag. I’ve still got plants in the blowaway & on the patio table to plant out. Fed the tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, flowers & peppers with tomato feed. Potatoes with seaweed feed. I’ll feed/water the squash, courgette, sweetcorn & beans tomorrow

      • I’m just planting out my broccoli (two so far) but it started raining so I made a cuppa, now it’s sunny I’ll carry on in a minute,I cleaned the nets ready for covering them. Also lifted the rest of the Maris bard bag of potatoes, not a very good yield compared to sharpes express,Arron pilot etc but it’s the first bag. I used the compost for a tomato & marigold. Planted the last two melon plants out with two geraniums.

        • Sowed some autumn/winter crops to fill up some spaces I will have in a few weeks when other veg gets cropped. Sowed Beetroot, Spring Onions, Pak Choi, Black and also Red Radish’s as well as some Swede. With the rain this was a good inside the greenhouse job to crack on with.

          • Harvesting, weeding, feeding (tom feed & comfrey tea), cut back the comfrey & dropped on the 'wet bed', bit of tying in (cucs, broadies, tay/loganberries, mangetout, peas).

Spent too long faffing with canes & net over the cabbage in the pallet collar just because I wanted to 'try' the connector gadgets - got it done but not before I lost patience - too high, hole in net so had to double over, canes all different widths & couldn't find a cane that wasn't 1/4 inch too short to finish off. A total botch job when there was nothing wrong with the original set up

Have told OH that next time I say I'll sort the net he must tell me to leave it for him. He thought I was joking but I most certainly wasn't

              • Today I trimmed the nettles out the front to stop them seeding & cut loads of leaves off & put into two bottles with water to make nettle fertiliser. Accidentally stung myself with it,I do this every year but apparently it helps against hay fever, antihistamine etc & I’ve never had hay fever, mum, sister & nephew all have it,really interesting science

                • Cut back the strawberry plants.
Spread some manure over what was the broad bean bed and on the chard bed.
Spotted my first ripe wild blackberries on my favourite bush, which I promptly ate and they were delicious.
                  Fed both greenhouses.
Did a bit of weeding, mainly snapping off marestail.
Filled the water drippy bottles on squashes and courgettes.

                  • Oh and I forgot, I scrambled into the hedges to try and find where the bl**dy muntjac is getting in, but I just can't work it out! Sneaky thing.

How tall are the hedges, Peanut? I've seen a muntjac scramble over a 7ft fence from a standing start, so it could well just be popping over the top.

Had some rogue salads so put them im the bed along with spring onions and chard.

                          • Got up just after 05.00hrs to water the garden and greenhouses.
Cut back sage and thyme. Deadheaded a ballerina rose and a really stinky hardy geranium that grows underneath it. Pulled up a load of huge spent foxgloves and promptly got showered with seeds, everywhere, in everything.
                            Had a shower

                            • Harvested more Charlotte potatoes & used the compost for a pot of mystery tomato, didn’t label it with mavras pepper & marigold & I put another unlabelled tomato plant in the potato bag with the rest of the compost. Hopefully work out what they are when ripe I removed the dried lettuce plants from the trug, ready to sow more soon. Harvested my tiny garlic. Watered the pots. Removed tomato sideshoots, tied in the melons & some tomatoes. Watered my camellia with nettle fertiliser.

                              • Harvesting & watering only at the plot yesterday - too darn hot to do much else. Left harvesting any spuds again as we still have some at home that need eating first.
