  • Put some anti pigeon spikes on top of my new arches, (which I had ordered in anticipation of this problem), as in the short time they have been up, they are already being used as pesky pigeon pooing perches!
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

          • Yesterday I was in the garden for 6hrs! I didn't realise the time until I thought, oh the lights starting to change...

I got all my beans planted, some borlotto, haricot and lima for drying, I realise that by having this intention I have ruined summer for all of us and it will now be cold and wet till October and for this I apologise.
Planted my moonlight, black knight and scarlet emperor runners and blue lake French climbers.
Got all my ipomoea in, some to climb up the arches with beans and others have an obelisk to themselves.
Planted the winter brassica bed which seems to consist of rudolph and red arrow psb and a ridiculous amount of January King cabbages. Covered them with insect mesh.

I received my first tentative order from Temu which consisted mainly of a roll of insect mesh and mesh bags to protect my blueberry bushes from blackbirds. I also got a few freebies one of which is a little hand weeder thing, its a metal handle with a really sharp pointy flat fork like edge on one side and a sharp blade bit on the other, I expected it to fall apart after a matter of minutes, but its fab! And made short work of eeking out little clumps of weeds/grass from the edge of my veg beds.

Not sure why this took 6hrs now its written down but it really did!

              • Weedkillered the front lawn that I sowed last year . It had far too many weed grass plants in it, all appeared to be rye. I'm coming to think that the seed batch was contaminated.
When it's died, I'll rake it off, re-level and dress the ground, water and fallow it until September. Then I'll sow it with the fresh batch of seed I got from Moles seeds.

                • Yesterday I planted the second melon plant in a black bucket, three more tomato plants & added a cucumber plant next to some nemesia & carrot flower. Watered my sweetcorn & first lot of beans (the south facing bed) with seaweed fertiliser. I’ll feed the other bed of beans, squash, tomatoes today & all the potatoes unless it rains.

                  • Yesterday I spent a while trying to wipe the greenfly off my chillies with damp cotton wool. How they've found their way to the kitchen windowsill when the plants have never been outside I don't know but they always seem to manage it

I'll need to invest in a new squirty thingy to give them the washing up liquid/garlic treatment as I can't for the life of my find the one that usually lives under the sink.

                    • Dug over the garden veg patch, and planted some bean and leek plants.
Thinned the apple trees, and started thinning the plum trees. The czar plum is ridiculous this year. I've already removed over 90% of the fruit, and I feel like that's still not enough. It seems as though almost every single flower set fruit, and lots of branches are already bending under the weight, despite them being nowhere near full size.
