  • Yesterday I got all my tomatoes and cucumbers into their final buckets in the greenhouse.
Repotted my peach tree (I needed the bucket for my tomatoes).
Planted out the last of the broad beans, already have some in the ground and some fruiting already.
Planted dwarf beans, have yet to check if they have been eaten overnight.
    Planted spring onions and beetroots.
    Planted sweetcorn and large squashes.
I hope to get everything else that is in pots into the ground over the next few days, especially the brassicas.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

    • Potted on the chillis. Washed greenfly off them and the overwintered ones. Removed the net cage from the garlic and weeded them. Some of them have got a bit of rust, but hopefully not too bad.

      • Netted my strawberry bed much to the watching blackbirds displeasure.
Planted the 1st bed of mostly summer brassicas, wok broc, summer psb, romanesco, Tuscan and scarlet kale and Duncan cabbage. Cabbage collars on and covered with very badly fitting and a bit holey vegmesh.
Potted up some beans, lima, haricot and borlotto for drying, (it will now be he wettest and coldest summer on record) and some scarlet emperor and moonlight runner beans.
All plants are now out of the house and either in a greenhouse or outside.
I am feeling rather smug as I can't remember ever having veg in the ground before June!

                      • I harvested a lot of bolted red onions, weeded & then made a teepee for an overwintered bean that randomly appeared amongst my onions,I saw three vines coming off it,looks healthy,I’ve put some new bean plants on the patio table to plant soon. Thinned the plum tree a tiny bit, need to check apple, pear & plum & do properly. There’s a lot of little pots of plants here,no space in the blowaways. Planted out two marigolds with a mountain princess tomato plant in a large container with BFB & potted on eleven broccoli seedlings.

                        • Planted out chillies, the remaining courgettes and squashes, and a few more leeks. And also the snapdragons and cornflowers. Weeded the onions and the lettuces. Picked the redcurrants.
Pressure washed the patio - what a difference!

                          • Tidied the shed yesterday & was even brave enough to go back in after screaming & running away at one point when I was looking to see if there was something useful in a little plastic bag & found a spider instead Not that I don't appreciate their usefulness but they are a phobia of mine.

Most of our comfrey had got bent over somehow (wind, rain?) so I cut it back & spread it over a bed we're resting this year. Was able to leave some flowering stems for the bees.

Hung a spinner from the arch to deter birds from the tay/loganberries but I think it might come unhooked if the wind picks up - will find out soon enough.

I was pleased to see the cosmos planted last week is still growing - it's in a rubbishy area that I anticipated would attract more slugs than that could cope with.

OH did weeding & made inroads into the strawberries but more to be done there for proper access. He drew the short straw really as apart from 5mins of brilliant sunshine we got drizzled/rained on.

Quick hello's but no chatting with plot neighbours as they were all making themselves busy in their greenhouse/shed/polytunnel to avoid the wet.

Edit to add: I threw some feed on the spuds too.

2nd edit to add: put some lubricant on the shed door track (hopefully OH will stop swearing at it every time he struggles to open/close the door now lol).

                            • Put up a second teepee & planted seven of the runner beans amongst the overwintered beans that came up,planted out ten of twenty sweetcorn plants around the beans,I might have to plant the rest of the corn around the onions because of space. Planted the first Turks turban squash. Separated some rocket seeds from the bits of plant & put in the kitchen for probably July sowing
