  • Congrats peanut

Planted out our lettuce today (no all year round though - they failed again), & beetroot, celery, cucs & 2 random broadies that decided to grow in the 1st batch I'd sown & given up on. Watering & weeding. Was enjoying a sit on the bench but it was spoiled by being unable to avoid overhearing petty plotters noisily berrating other plotters whose plots don't meet their standards was too warm to hang around anyway so came home for a late chippy lunch & a nice cool drink 🍸

    • In theory, absolutely nothing
OH said we both needed a complete day off so we just sat in the garden reading and chatting and eating.
( In practice …I made a mental list of more jobs to focus on)

      • Good night all.
A very busy day which was unexpected.
We were asked to look after our young grandson for a few hours and then take him to his friends house for a play date.
Then our eldest grandson called in for a late lunch.
Next our youngest grandaughter called with a belated birthday gift for her grandad.
After that we got a call from cousin's in London asking would we like to meet up in the next few days.
Our heads are spinning. Finally chilling out before we go to bed.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

        • Planted out tomatoes (they’ve been in cold frame for a week) mix of Roma, Green Tiger, yellow and Marmande superprecoce.
Sowed little gem and all year round lettuce in covered seed bed and also planted a few over leggy Romaine seedlings (not sure the6 will survive.
Prepared another bed for second wave of tomato planting. Watered bean. Looking good.

          • Not me…but OH… has been clearing up a raised bed we left fallow for a few years.
It was inundated with voles and they ate the roots and fruits of near enough everything we planted in there.

It’s absolutely bone dry ( under trees) and completely devoid of any plant matter . Basically compressed dust now

So…last chance ….hopefully they won’t be searching in this area for food now and we can try again.

                  Spread some poultry manure.
                  Netted the strawberries.
Dug over some more of the allotment beds.

                  • Planted peas, summer psb & cosmos today. Netted the spsb. Weeding. Hoeing. Tied in new tayberry& loganberry stems & tied a bamboo cane into the arch for a bit of extra stability. Put a windmill in with the celery (forgot last week). Donated a few spare strawberry plants to a plot neighbour - he paid £5 for 1 plant in Waitrose granted it was a decent size & he'll be rooting runners but seriously!

                      • Yesterday I prepped what will be the brassica bed, this one will have summer brassicas in. My plan is then to move my raspberries there over winter.
Then I started clearing a neglected area between an existing bed with potatoes in and my neighbours low fence. Its probably just shy of 2m wide so I plan to have some prairie penstemon, twizzle, along the fence and another veg bed inbetween. So I've laid cardboard down as we're due, hopefully, a good amount of rain tomorrow then I'll compost it and get it planted up.
After that I had a weeding session of mainly marestail and tuffts of grass, I think I must have every variety of grass and perennial weeds known to man in my garden, is there a national collection of weeds?🤔

                          • Planted out most of the tomatoes, the cucumbers, marrows, pumpkins and courgettes, plus sweet corn this weekend. And wallpapered the study (after getting a quote for over £1500 to wallpaper that tiny room and paint the trims I decided that the single woman's surcharges in London are getting a bit ridiculous)
