  • I have one plant in the ground which keeps coming back each year, too. This is its third year now. But it never starts growing until June, so it never gets an early enough start to produce more than a handful of ripe fruit.

    • It is mostly about keeping the soil warm enough to get the leaves above the ground early.
They need to be at least a foot high before there is any flowers.

          • More apples. Looks like the few pears we have are almost ready too….maybe tomorrow.
Also more bay leaves and sage to dry. Got a really good crop of both of those this year.

              • Yesterday, I picked another dozen or so Sunset apples.
Today at the allotment I picked a cucumber, a pepper, french beans, 1.5kg of tomatoes, and the last 9 pears.
I had 5.6kg of pears in the end, which isn't loads but it's still enough that I'm struggling to store them. Williams don't keep well, after all, and they were pretty much all ready to pick at once. For now, most of them are in the fridge in plastic bags.

                    • Yesterday picked one more bunch of grapes, two courgettes & more tomatoes. The courgettes are doing well this month (growing normal size) the heatwave really got to them,I had thin courgettes for ages,I’ll add some mulch round them soon, get them ready for the cold nights.
