Too late for parsnips?

I've got a bit of space next to my parsnips and fancy another row. Is it too late? I'll probably chit the seeds to speed it up. Could always sow a row of salad if it's too late.

I'd sow them just to use up the seeds. Have a read at this older thread others have sown in June.

It’s been too cold at night to sow ours until last week, so you’re not so far behind!

Stick a fleece over them to help bring them on!

Looking back at my calendar last year I didn't chit until the the last week of June and sowed out first week of July. I ended up with small, but perfect to roast whole parsnips.
Go for it!

I started chiting a few seeds at a time indoors until the roots were visible on one or two seeds and then planting.
I started in March through to April.
I have got plenty of true leaves now on some of the early parts of the bed.
I did not bother covering them and they just paused for the cold periods.

Oh good. I'll get them chitting then. Trying a new way this year of 'dibbing' a massive parnsip shape hole in the soil and filling it with sieved compost. Mostly homemade but mixed with some spent compost from last year. Hopefully no wonky ones. Mind you i quite like wonky massive ones. Once you get rid of all the tentacles you have an almost spherical parsnip that cuts up into even bits more easily 😃

its worth a try no matter how late imo. you might end up with nothing or you might end up with some lovey, perfectly sized parsnips. nothing worse than an old woody 'snip
