  • Does anybody recognise the variety of squash this is?
I purchased a "mixed bag" of squash seeds from a seed company in France, the varieties were not listed.
It looks like a giant Lemon

    • Is there anything to be gained by leaving squashes on the vine at this time of year?
      Will they continue to grow/swell?

        • Four courgettes two days ago

          Total:
          courgettes - 106 + 4 =110
          'marrows' - 6

And I really think that's the lot - pretty good for just two plants. In the past I've sometimes struggled to get to double figures. I'll definitely sow Atena Polka next year, but perhaps just one plant!

          • I’m afraid I didn’t count mine individually , except the 2 big pumpkins, but have had a steady supply all summer with 41lb courgettes, 28lb cucumber, 26lb amazonka pumpkins and a couple of giant pumpkins (82lb).
A lovely colleague has offered to lend me an entire book of pumpkin recipes ;-)

              • In order of patheticness!

                1 pumpkin (a big one)
2 Butternut squash (tiny too, epic fail)
2 petty pan squash (didn't even get to taste these haha)
                ~ 10 green corgettes
                ~ 15 round corgettes
20-25 yellow corgettes (still going as one is in tunnel)
At least 100 cucumbers - had 6 plants due to a weird situation arising. 4 of them are still going though looking a bit ropey. 3 were them ones you eat small and they just produced loads and loads.

Karela/Bitter Melon= 1, with lots of questionable embryos on the vine

                      • Harvested my 1st butternut today as it had somehow become detached from the vine. The rest are still ripening for another week or so while temps are reasonable.

                            • Picked my five squash from the allotment the other day, as the plants have already died for some reason (even though we haven't had any frost yet and the plants in the garden are still going strong).
They weren't quite ripe yet (it was a very late sowing; 20th June), so I've lain them out in the "sun" to ripen for a while.
