Decided to plant some of the tomatoes & aubergines in the polytunnel as it looks like the next 2 weeks are going to be mild. I will have to harden more plants over the next week or so, and plant the peppers as well. Also to plant in the poly are melons and cues, tomatillos and cape berries!!!

Potted up some Comfrey cuttings and Tomatoes, layed slug pellets around my Potatoe sacks and cleaned out some pots, my Potatoes compete in height with my Tomatoes, they love being grown indoors!

Finally got around to setting the tomatos, peppers, chives, basil, cucumbers, chillis nand courgettes, and yes I know I'm late! But at least they are now in there with covers too as it is still cold up here.

Now I'm retired I can remove / replace covers each day as needed - bliss.....

First year I've had a greenhouse too!! Got some carrots, lettuce, beetroot, sweet peas, radishes, early potatoes in pots, and just moved a few of my tomato seedlings in there which I cover with bubble wrap at night to protect. I've sowed some more too in case the others catch cold but weather has been very warm this last couple of weeks they are doing ok. Bit of a year of experimenting this year to find out what works etc etc. Apparently cucumbers are best started off late April so wont start mine yet. Ive sown some peppers though ........... all great fun!

Spent my time today putting manure on the poly beds and then watering them.

Elmo, strange you should mention changing the bed layout, I've sort of been doing that this morning. I had four small paths in the polytunnel that were meant to make it easier to get to plants...what they really got used for was storing all kinds of junk that I should really have put away in the shed. So...spent the day digging them out and increasing the size of four of my raised beds.

It's increased the growing area by about 4sqm and if (and it's a big if) my arithmetic is correct, that's an increase of 16% reclaimed from wasted space. Now I'm gonna relax in a nice warm bath and try and soothe my poor abused muscles.

Yesterday - sowed the chilli seeds for 2014!
Today (once I've finished marking ) I hope to move more soil into the raised bed in the GH and plant out the little module lettuce & leaves plants that have been in there for ages - may not work, but hey...

Removed spent toms and aubergines from poly (total crop from both this year - 1 small aubergine!), started pulling up weeds that had grown all over the floor and digging over the soil... going to add lots of manure and leafmould, and build raised beds and a proper path down the middle, hopefully get something useful from this 'investment' next year!
