Dug mine up today, it did'nt flower but doubled the yeild of ginger from the supermarket root lump I started with. A few tips.

Start it in March in-doors, I got mine started by potting up in a heated propegator. Keep in doors until frost risk has past and then grow on in the greenhouse.

Ginger needs well drained and fertile soil, JI no1 to start with helped. Keep watered until you get to september and then let the compost dry out before watering again, this lets the root tubers swell.

Thanks for that. Can I not keep it in the pot and just cut some off if I need it? I have it growing on my kitchen windowsill and it is now nearly 4 foot high. Was thinking of re-potting next weekend but now not sure what to do.
    Happy Gardening,

Thanks Gardenfan. I might give that a try next year. Should keep hubby rolling his eyes in mock horror!

If at first you don't succeed, open a bottle of wine.

Shirley letting the tubers swell enough for you to remove a bit would work I guess. If you don't disturb the rootball too much it should be ok.
