  • help me please - self build greenhouse

    Hi all,

While scanning the vine at work on Friday (yes I know I should have been working but it was a quiet day), I spotted a picture someone had posted of a greenhouse they had made themselves. I recall it was wood and plastic sheeting but lost my internet link and now I can't find the thread. I am sure they had a link to where you could get the plans to build a similar structure.

Please can anyone remember which thread it was as a search for greenhouse has not found it!!

    Hi Shirley
I saw a greenhouse made by some young people on a community allotment, here in South Wales. They youngsters had collected hundreds of plastic pop bottles cut the necks off and stacked them, they were all then wired intogether to create walls and the roof. They even have a door made of bottles. If i can (i am not very technical) i will try to link you with a photo of the finished thing.
    good luck building yours.

Thanks for that Aunt Sally. I think I may have seen a pic of that in another thread but it wasn't the one I had in mind. Good way to recycle plastic bottles though!!

I am exploring various possibilities with regard to greenhouses. I have a picture of a 'bottle' greenhouse on the Drafty greenhouse thread at present. I thought I had an original idea until I realised it had been done before! Still thinking about it...but may come up with other ideas, who knows?

Good luck with your project Snadger.

Showed my OH the plans for the build your own from Nick's thread - he is going to try making me one next spring (provided he isn't working abroad then).

LOL, I just got back from the airport - he is on his way to a job in Portugal!! I won't be holding my breath waiting for the greenhouse to be built - will prolly ask a mate of his who is a chippie!!! Better chance of it actually materialising!

Any tips on how to anchor it though?

I'd put a concrete collar down & set some bolts in it upside down (if you see what I mean).

Failing that use some Frame fixings like they use for doorframes

Sounds all to technical for me!!! My 6 x 4 plastic greenhouse is held down by gravel!! I dug out the turf to around 4" deep to make a level base then put gravel over the 'flaps' that spread out at the bottom of the greenhouse.

Hope OH will build this one for me - it looks quite good and will surely be much cheaper than one from focus or b & q - won't it?
