my only problem with basil is growing enough. i'm always too scared to use it [home made pesto is a must] for fear i'll run out!

i've got about 10 plants on the go now. a few from cuttings rooted in water and a few grown from seed planted a few weeks ago.

Old thread, but do you pinch the tops out chilliking? That'll help produce a more bushy plant..

they'll get to about 3 foot ish or higher unles you pinch out the tips when they're anything from 6 to 12 inches high, depends on how tall you want them to get.
it's ready when you have leaves, say at about, coincedentally, 6 to 12 inches high

I am considering putting some basil plants in with my tomatos, but how many? I have one tom per morrisons flower bucket, is there room for a few basil seeds, and if so, how many? I do love a nice bit of basil and tomato, yum yum

hmm probably better in seperate pots buzzingtalk.
ive had so much basil, indoors, containers, for a while and no idea what to do with - pesto?
                never thought of that!
recommend any fine pesto recipes but not too complicated? google returns rather complicated ideas which i am not looking for.

basil, pine nuts, parmesan and oil. Chop it all up, add oil and mix
                  Can't get simpler than that

Make a cheap pesto by using salted peanuts instead of pine nuts. Well you have to improvise on a pension!!
