  • Korean Agastache

I'm completely confused by Agastache aka Hyssop or Giant Hyssop. Research says the Korean version is the Agastache Rugosa aka Korean mint aka Perilla.

Except this Perilla is not to be confused with Shiso, which I always thought was Perilla.

Before I realised I was in this minefield, I'd already ordered White Hyssop aka Hyssop Officinalis and Giant Hyssop Blue aka Agastache Mexicana.

Which are not Agastache Rugosa and therefore not Korean mint?

Honestly, I'm going to order the Rugosa too just out of sheer curiosity now. Already have Perilla from last year, Shiso version and one that didn't say Shiso but which I assumed was the same because really, why wouldn't I?

I'm sure I'll enjoy all versions as they're meant to be great pollinator attractors, but I started this hunt because I thought the Korean mint might be a culinary herb from my native country.

Anyway! Any help would be appreciated x

As you know, Anise Hyssop isn't a mint or a Hyssop. When I buy it it usually just has Agastache followed by the cultivar name. If you
have the cultivar name you can often look it up on Google to get which type of agastache it is.

I think Korean mint might be a generic name for a number of different plants, although Rugosa is often called that.
