  • Yellowing Sage

The rosemary and Thyme in this terracotta pot are doing well but the Sage is looking sickly with yellowing. All these herbs like the same conditions so why is this so? Should I give it some chicken manure pellets?

Well, it's getting no better. I have watered it but it continues to wilt.

Do't worry about the older leaves that have gone yellow. The new growth is happy.

Ok, thanks for the encouragement. I thought I have lost it.

Sorry about your sage plants Marb. My guess would be that they might have been too wet, maybe you accidently kill them with kindness? All my sages are pretty much neglected in pots and frequently dry right out, they seem to do quite well under those conditions weirdly

My soil looks like dust where mine grow. They are more established than marb’s were …but never get watered unless they droop.
Your soil looks very dark and rich marb?

                Sorry you lost them

The rosemary is positively thriving, so I'd say that's why the sage is not. Rosemary produces chemical compounds that inhibit the growth of competing plants. In open ground they would probably be OK together, but confined in a pot, the rosemary is eliminating competitors.

Dig out the sage, cut it back to some of those tiny healthy shoots, and give it a home of its own.

Thanks folks. I didn't know that about rosemary. I did dig it out before I read this so perhaps I might save it. Put it in some mediocre soil in its own pit. The roots were very healthy so not root rot or overwatered. I just get so frustrated with Sage.

Marb I don't do well with sage so your doing better than me. Agree with cutting back to healthy leaves.
