  • Name That Bulb

    I planted an assortment of summer bulbs and they have started to come through. Can you tell what they are for me please? I know the first one are Tulips so they can be ruled out from the others. Also are the last two from bulbs? They are very aggressive with their growth so i'm a bit confused as to what they are :/

    2 = Crocus
    3 = hyacinth
    4 = not a bulb but has bluey/purple flowers and self seeds everywhere
    5 - not a bulb, I should know it but the name escapes me!

      I was going to say the same as VC for the 2nd and 3rd one and the 4th one came up on here recently because I have it popping up in my front lawn - but the name of it escapes me again. No idea on the last one.

        Thanks Should i be concerned then about the 4th one then? Will it reduce the show of the bulbs?

          I found the link that I think might help with the 4th one: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ase_63330.html

              Could no.5 be a lily or are the leaves not narrow enough?

                I agree with VC but can't remember the names of the last two!
                Number 5 is definitely a weed - I have loads of it on my lottie and it spreads like wildfire - pull it up!

                  Too early for lilies.

                  No. 5 is a weed also, I get it a lot on my acidy clay soil at home

                        I'd also dig up the little clover next to the crocus - it'll have a deep root, and will resist. Don't snap it off - it'll come back stronger and take over too!

                          No 4 looks like purple toadflax to me - a wildflower but I like it so I leave it.
                          I agree with Vicky, no 5 looks like a snapdragon judging by the old seed head - I would tidy that up and wait for free colour!
                          Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

                            Too late, all gone.

                            Any idea where the non bulbs would have come from? The bed is next to the street footpath with no other flowers nearby. I lifted the turf up before planting them last year so the soil they went in was from 2"-3" down topped up with MPC.
