No - I have dedicated areas where I throw all old flower seed heads, and I've got a lovely display of white poppies right now.
a - poppy seeds are edible
b - they bring insects in that control greenfly
c - the bring colour into the lottie
d - if you don't want the seeds, you can nip the seed heads off once the flower is gone
I have transplanted leeks and garlics that are flowering into my flower bed, it is around the rasp bed, and also has violas [hartsease], other alliums, white and red poppies, nigella, limanthes, borage, nasturtiums, echinacea...it is the middle bed so a lovely display right in the middle of the plot.

I only let the really beautiful one or two go to seed (never the insipid mauve ones)Originally posted by pdblake View PostThey do spread like mad if you let them go to seed so I can see his point.
They are really easy to pull out, and provide lots of lovely compost material
My site rep doesn't complain about the grass, dandies, nettles & ragwort that is allowed to go to seed every summer along the verges

We've got lots growing on the road side all the way up our road (single track country variety!!). Can "borrow" some of the seed heads when they're ready and send you some if you want Shirl? Will be rehoming some in wild area of my garden also.Originally posted by shirlthegirl43 View PostI think they are gorgeous. None round here so no chance of me getting pretty weeds like that

Thanks for the offer, but Madmax says we have to move. Blowed if I am wasting time and good seeds on the next owner! Maybe my next garden will come complete with poppiesOriginally posted by janeyo View PostShirl I have some poppy seeds from a free seed packet if you'd like them, think they are yellow ones?

The white ones at my lottie are lovely.
Might take a photo later.

I generally leave them be in the front garden but won't let them grow on the veg plot. I have discovered a good use for those though, the chooks love 'emOriginally posted by Two_Sheds View PostI only let the really beautiful one or two go to seed (never the insipid mauve ones)

No Two Sheds, I'd let you keep them. I love poppies even although they do seed all over the place if you don't watch them. I have some of the yellow ones we call Welsh poppies. and I've grown some of the red ladybird and some mixed colours. I'm looking forward to the show.
