Monarda & Eryngium-anybody has them?

This year I'm going to grow a few perennials from seeds.Some of them are Monarda(bergamot) and Eryngium Blue Hobbit(slightly different than Sea Holly).
Monarda-I'm a big fan of Earl Grey,the plant has lovely flowers,bee friendly and bug repellet.Enough recommendations to sow it everywhere.
Eryngium-lovely looking silvery-blue plant,attracts butterflies,good for dried boquets.

Has anybody grown them from seeds or maybe you have them in your garden?What are the ideal growing conditions for these two?I'm going to start the seeds at home as they need fairly high germination temperature.

I know I won't get any flowers this year...but I believe they are worth waiting for

We grew some bergamot a couple of years ago, might have started them in the heated prop, but from memory seemed very straightforward.

Hi there; I have a Monarda in my garden and the only word for it is thug It spreads like a goodun but lovely bright flowers although they do go a bit 'mushy' in wet weather. I didn't grow it from seed though - bought it at a garden sale - sorry can't be more help there. One perennial I successfully grew from seed last spring (and it flowered in summer) was Gaura Lindheimeri and it was lovely especially for cutting.

I tried Eryngium from seed and got no luck at all. Just ordered some bare root plants

I've just sown some Eryngium Miss Willmott's Ghost in fibre pots on the windowsill (nothing happening yet) and also have a packet of Monarda waiting to be sown. I sowed Eryngium last year ... 3 have survived, but are really weedy looking characters. I'm hoping they'll pick up a bit, or they're going to be compost.

Just remembered we sowed some Miss Wilmot earlier this year - nada! Sowed some more last week...nothing so far...

What I don't get is that Miss Wilmot (supposedly) went round scattering it willy-nilly and it grew everywhere????

I bought some monarda seeds this year and have sown them! They have all come up - 100s of them eek! - but when I later re-read the packet it said they will flower in the second year after planting! Didn't realise that at the time!

Smallblueplanet-I have Eryngium Blue Hobbit seeds which I dare say is the same family as Sea Holly but looks slightly different.I got it from Suttons. Buy Eryngium Blue Hobbit Seeds online from Suttons
