6 sprouted Fr. Marigolds put in compost today. I emptied the rest of the seed packet in to chit with the first lot as I'd like more than 6.

Of the sweet peas I put to chit, all but four chitted and were potted up a week or more ago. The last four are half the size of the chitted ones, and where the others were mostly pale brown, these are dark enough to call black. I looked at them yesterday, and as they were showing no sign of mould or rot I decided to crack the hard shells and give them another couple of days before chucking them. One day later, one has started to chit, and the other three have swelled in preparation.
I checked what I sowed last year, and among the named modern varieties was also a packet of "old fashioned mixed", so I wonder if these were the ones that were smaller seeds and reluctant to come out of their shell.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land

The last 3 sweet peas have chitted, and interestingly their almost black shells have turned the same pale brown as the ones that chitted in a week. I shall definitely nick the shell of any dark SPs in future when chitting them.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land

Slugs don't bother things that grow from bulbs in Spring, do they? I wonder what they have that other flowers don't. Is it the leaf shape, linear like grass? Or are they coarser than our tenderly nurtured flower seedlings so just not as sweet?Originally posted by Containergardener View PostHahaha I need to grow things that slugs detest

How strange, I've never had mine touched, obviously my slugs are not as tough as your northern ones.Originally posted by Containergardener View PostErr they eat daffs and tulips here
