Just been reading May's GYO mag and they're giving Russian giant sunflowers seeds in the mag that's due any day so i'll re-sow using those.

Got about 20 germinated from my recycled bird food - no idea where to plant them - will have to be somewhere that the deer can't get to.

Something has been chomping on my Irish eyes sunflower seedlings. They were in the cold frame but with lid was propped open. Have reported and moved, might still keep a few. They were never winning this anyway as they only get 45cm high!

I've got 6 seedlings from the bird food candidates - something munched some off the others, but I reckon I may get a few more.

That was quick, 4 days later and I can see seedlings emerging

Think this competition has jinxed my sunflowers. They were doing fine but have now been chomped by a slug/snail in the cold frame. Have put them back in the gh for now but looking rather pathetic.

I've got about 20 now, some with their first proper leaves - the next problem is I can't think of anywhere in my garden to plant them - still my neighbour is getting on a bit and has a large unused space - could be some guerilla gardening is called for :-)

                                PS only joking !
