I didn't know about the lock in until the beginning of the month.

Luckily we don't have to worry because of the set up we have had with our chickens for about 5 years.

Their egglu is under a pergola with a Perspex roof that we had built, and the outside is covered with very fine netting and outside that there is an electric fence. So it is very unlikely that wild birds could get to the girls.

We also have a strict hygiene policy since our granddaughter has been on the scene.

The shoes for going in to the chickens are kept in a plastic box with a lid. at the entrance to the chickens and Mr Bee sits on the chair which is next to it to change his shoes to make sure nothing comes out nor goes in.

He also changes his clothes to go into the chickens.

you have to be careful not to walk any bird poo into the chicken enclosure too.

          .
I have to ask - does he have a wardrobe beside his chair for his clothes?

On a serious note, these restrictions have been in place since 6th December. I expect there are poultry keepers who are still oblivious to the restrictions or who choose to ignore them
Hope DEFRA can lift the restrictions at the end of February.

Nah, don't be daft, he keeps his chicken clothes in the garage.

And often strips of there and sticks them straight in the washing machine, also in the garage.

I am not optimistic about the ban being lifted at the end of February either, but we hope.

Doubt the restrictions WILL be lifted in a few weeks, given more outbrakes, certainly not good.

With all of these recent outbreaks, it begs the question whether the advice given has been acted upon.

Not sure how much this is going to add to the confusion about what to do, or to people ignoring the ban. The housing order is primarily being lifted in low-risk areas for free-range poultry farmers so they don't lose the free-range label for their eggs:

                                https://www.farminguk.com/News/Defra...eas_45577.html

Info on permitted supervised access to outdoors for poulty in low-risk areas from 01 March:

                                https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...ruary-2017.pdf

Where's that info on avian flu jumping from infected chicken eggs to humans....WHO says it can if the yolk is runny, NHS says it can't. Where's my tinfoil hat...!!!
